Deana Carter’s album Did I Shave My Legs For This? was certified multi-platinum for sales of 5 million copies. Four singles were released: Carter’s signature tune "Strawberry Wine" (#1 song of the year end charts for 1996), "We Danced Anyway" (#1), "Count Me In" (#5), "How Do I Get There" (#1), and the title track (#25).
Garth Brooks’ Sevens album was certified multi-platinum for sales of 7 million copies. The album featured the singles “Longneck Bottle” (#1), “Do What You Gotta Do” (#13) “Two Pina Coladas” (#1), “She’s Gonna Make It” (#2), “You Move Me” (#3) and a duet with Trisha Yearwood, “In Another’s Eyes” (#2).
777,777 copies of Sevens were marked as First Editions. These albums have a gold seal on the CD booklet and a similar mark on the CD itself. Canadian versions of the albums have a maple leaf shaped seal on the cover. First Editions were not released outside of North America.
After 37 years of publication, Music City News magazine closed its doors.

George Strait’s album 22 More Hits was certified gold.
The 2007 compilation, comprising hits that did not reach #1 (except for "She Let Herself Go"), covered songs from his 1981 debut single "Unwound" to his most recent single at the time of the album's release, "How 'bout Them Cowgirls".
The collection is intended as a companion to 50 Number Ones, a 2004 compilation which featured all of Strait's singles that had reached #1 to that point.

The Trio album, by Dolly Parton, Linda Ronstadt & Emmylou Harris, receives Grammy nominations for Best Album and Best Country Vocal Performance – Duo or Group.
Harris contributes to five nominations overall.

Reba McEntire joins the Grand Ole Opry during a CBS special celebrating the Opry's 60th anniversary. Hank Snow boycotts the special when producers limit him to one verse of "I'm Moving On".
