Today's spotlight falls on a pair of young singer/songwriters who have taken the country music world by storm, hitting the top of the chart with their first single.

Growing up is never easy, even when you score your first Number One single at just 19 years old. Maddie & Tae's debut album, Start Here, takes a look back over a half-decade's worth of boyfriends, dreams, schoolyard bullies and fishing dates gone wrong.

Maddie Marlow and Tae Dye never intended to strike a nerve when they wrote “Girl In A Country Song”; they were merely expressing their honest reaction to their view of the current state of country music. Along with co-writer Aaron Scherz, the duo shamelessly skewered country's current stereotypes. “Girl In A Country Song” was written as much a lark as it was a meaningful social commentary, proving to the music industry that they weren’t alone in their feelings.

After the song’s release, the response from critics and fans was so instantaneous and intense, there was no denying its message. Rolling Stone cited Maddie & Tae as one of “10 New Artists You Need to Know”, while David Letterman couldn’t get the duo to New York fast enough for their late night debut. But, Maddie & Tae didn’t set out to be the revolutionaries of the Country main stream. They just wanted to write songs about life the way two young women were living.

Of course, with a hit single in your back pocket, the music world wants more. The pair's follow-up single, "Fly" is taking the same slow, steady path up the charts that their first release did. With their self entitled debut EP already on the shelves, they are preparing for the release of their debut album, Start Here, on August 28th. They are currently on tour with Dierks Bentley and are preparing for their first headling tour, scheduled to kick off October 7th in New York City.

With more music on the horizon, the pair is preparing for the eventual release of single number 3 from Start Here, and we have that song in our spotlight today. Maddie and Tae with "Downside of Growing Up", today's Catch of the Day; new music you haven't heard, but you'll want to hear it again.
