If the artists in today's feature had followed suit of our Monday featured duo, they would be called something like Texas-Oklahoma Line. But thankfully, they went their own way in naming the duo, as they have with their music.

When Maddie & Tae burst on the scene in 2014, they took a stand against "bro-country", proclaiming loudly they were more than just a "Girl In A Country Song". The anthem quickly took hold, and when it went to #1 on December 20th, 2014, 23 weeks after entering the Billboard Country chart, becoming only the second female country duo to hit that spot, the first since the Wreckers in 2006, with "Leave The Pieces".

In 2010 Madison "Maddie" Marlow and Taylor "Tae" Diggs were both still in high school, and were students of the same vocal coach, though they had never met until meeting at a showcase in Dallas, TX. Dallas was located almost perfectly 90 minutes in between Maddie's home in Ada, OK and Tae's in Sugarland, TX. The pair hit it off almost immediately and began songwriting together. They decided to perform as a duo, first taking the name Sweet Aliana; once they had completed high school, they moved to Nashville in search of country music stardom.

Maddie & Tae didn't set out to be country revolutionaries, but almost from the start, they were setting paths for others. When Big Machine Records announced the formation of a subsidiary, the first signees of Dot Records would be Maddie & Tae in June of 2014. Their debut single, which was written by the duo and producer Aaron Scherz, who co-produced the song with Dann Huff. The song was released July 19th, 2014, and began a 21 week journey up the charts by debuting at #58. In November, the pair released their self-titled debut EP, featuring their #1 single, along with three other songs written by Marlow & Dye.

Among those songs was the duo's second single, "Fly", which they debuted to the world by performing it on the The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon show on the day it was released to radio, January 26th. It became their second top-10 single, soaring to #9; both singles have been certified gold by the RIAA. A third single from Start Here, the pair's debut album, "Shut Up And FIsh" stalled at #23.

Wasting no time, the fourth single from that debut album is in our spotlight today. Maddie & Tae and "Sierra" are in our spotlight today, new music you haven't heard, but you'll want to hear it again.
