Today we feature an up-and-coming singer and songwriter who was born and raised in two places that don't immediately bring country music to mind.

Steve Moakler was born in New Jersey and raised in Pittsburgh, PA, but he definitely found the music of Nashville early in his life, and took the road to Music City through Country Music U, Belmont University. After leaving BU in 2006, Moakler worked a variety of jobs around Nashville, while pursuing his dream. In 2009, Moakler released his self-produced debut album All The Faint Lights, continuing to play local venues.

The debut album caught the attention of small indy label Free The Birds Records, who released two more albums with Moakler, 2011's Watching Time Run and 2014's Wide Open. Both albums landed on the US Indy Albums chart, but failed to crack the top-30. He continued righting for other artists, his biggest success was the title track to Dierks Bentley's most recent album Riser. Currently he is splitting his time between the studio, opening for Dan + Shay on their current tour, as well as headlining his own tour in support of his most recent release, a self-titled EP released by Creative Nation Management.

In addition to his own records, his songs have been recorded by artists like: Dierks Bentley, Jake Owen and Kellie Pickler. His music has also been featured on MTV, Fox, ABC, and in the major motion picture, October Baby. The first single from that brand new EP is in our spotlight today. Steve Moakler and "Suitcase" is today's Catch of the Day, new music you haven't heard, but you'll want to hear it again.
