The City of Lawton is reminding residents that despite the enactment of Oklahoma's Rockets' Red Glare Act, all city ordinances regarding fireworks will remain unchanged. Therefore, the use, possession and sale of fireworks within the city limits of Lawton will remain prohibited.

The Rockets' Red Glare Act allows the sale of fireworks year-round, allows Oklahoma residents to use fireworks on private property and brings bottle rockets back to the state, which have been banned in the state for over 40 years. However, the act allows cities to retain the right to enforce local bans and restrictions regarding fireworks.

The City of Lawton will continue to enforce city ordinances prohibiting fireworks.

Despite the Rockets' Red Glare Act, Lawton residents will be prohibited from using fireworks on their property and possessing or selling fireworks within city limits. In a statement from the City of Lawton, residents and visitors are urged to adhere to existing city ordinances regarding fireworks.

The City of Lawton is intending to monitor the Rockets' Red Glare Act and its impact on local regulations. If necessary, the Lawton City Council will consider amendments through its normal public process. Until council takes any action, current City of Lawton fireworks regulations will remain in effect.

Oklahoma's Best 4th of July Celebrations

There's nothing like celebrating America's independence in the heartland, and Oklahoma practically overflows with patriotism across the state. While most towns have their own celebrations, some are larger than others. Since it would be hard to catch all of them in one day, they're spread out a bit over two and a half weeks, pick one or more and let your American flag fly.

2025's Hottest Fireworks Picks

Shopping for fireworks is a lot like picking out a new vehicle. While you're interested in what a car or truck can do, we generally pick based on how they look. The fireworks store is full of sensory-overload designs and hilarious images, but logos rarely tell you what it does. We visited King Fireworks in Geronimo, OK, where they have a cool scanner system that pulls up the fireworks on TVs throughout the store so you can see what you're buying, but here are their top picks and best bangs for your buck this year.
