You can't win unless you learn how to lose' Kareem Abdul Jabbar.  That quote and this one from Billie Jean King - 'Champions keep playing until they get it right.'

Both of these in my opinion would perfectly describe the Duncan Lady Demons Softball season that just ended.

As in any sport, there is a lot of prep work before any games begin. For the Demons, Summer practices began in June. The team worked off and on all the way up to the first scrimmages two weeks before the school year started. Continuing to fine tune as all teams do in the beginning.

Going through a rigorous schedule that included several tournaments along the way including a 3 day tournament in Colorado which saw them taking 3rd place and being the only Oklahoma team invited to the event.

Last part of the season saw the well oiled machine churning out win after win. Entering the back half of district play would determine regional play and a possible berth at state. Both were on the minds of 6 Seniors and the remaining team.

Could a return to the state championship be possible? September came and went and the win column kept growing and growing. One final game against a district foe would determine if we would host or travel to a regional playoff.

Getting to host a regional is exciting as you watch your team move in the bracket and observe who you will have to play in order to move on or go home. It can be nerve racking and a nail biter all in one. Becoming Regional Champions is a great honor and it puts you one step closer to the ultimate goal.

Heading off to state you will face a team you have (possibly) never played. For the Lady Demons, this year it meant playing Claremore (OK) in the first round. We were the third game of the day in our bracket so the anticipation kept growing and growing. Not sure, but there were just as many adults excited as the team itself. The city of Duncan will rally around the team (no matter which sport) to give them a good sendoff.

As in any sport, game or what ever it may be, there can only be one winner. And on that crisp fall afternoon, the Lady Demons saw their magnificent season come to an end with a 3 – 0 loss. They can hold heads high though. The season saw 31 wins and only 7 losses.

And they made it to state. There were so many other teams that did not get invited to the dance. Congratulations Duncan! Great season with many memories made during the games. Just a little over 7 months and you can start your work on the 2014 season! Looking forward to seeing what you all have in store for us then!
