Story Behind the Song: Dylan Scott, ‘Hooked’
Morgan Evans is not only a rising country artist, he's an established songwriter as well. Evans -- who is married to Kelsea Ballerini -- wrote every song on his eponymous freshman album (which was only released in his native Australia), and he has also written songs for other artists.
One of those songs that Evans has penned for others is Dylan Scott's single "Hooked," from Scott's self-titled freshman record. The song was inspired by Evans' then-blossoming romance with Ballerini; he wrote it shortly after the two began dating. Evans originally wrote the song with himself in mind, but gave it to Scott to record and release.
Below, Evans shares the story behind "Hooked."
That’s kind of a funny story. I love that song, for starters, and Dylan did a great version of it.
I actually walked into the writing room one day -- I wrote it with Seth Ennis and a producer from Australia named Lindsey Rimes. I walked in, and it was just after Kelsea and I started dating; she had just posted [on social media] about it. She had “Peter Pan” out at the time.
I walked into the room, and they were like, “All right, so Kelsea’s got "Peter Pan." We should write one for you called "Hooked."" I said, “That is a terrible idea.” And then I started playing guitar for a little bit, and they were like, “What about "Hooked"?” and we wrote that song.
We were pretty stoked with it, and I’m so glad he released it.
