Eric Church has announced the dates and details for an ambitious 2017 headlining tour that will see the superstar doing things very differently.

Church announced the 2017 Holdin' My Own Tour on Tuesday night (Aug. 9) just before taking the stage at Colorado's Red Rocks Amphitheater for the first of two scheduled shows. The tour is slated to kick off Jan. 13 at the Pinnacle Bank Arena in Lincoln, Neb., and will run through May before ending up with two shows in Nashville. The tour takes its name from the fact that Church will not bring any support acts on the road with him in 2017; instead, he and his band are set to perform two sets, with an intermission in between.

Church has had plenty of time to think about some different approaches to his live shows since the rapid recording and release of his most recent album, Mr. Misunderstood, left him with a big hole in his schedule.

“The way this album came together mandated we release it as a surprise, straight to our fans, as it was important for me to deliver the music the same way the creativity hit me — directly and swiftly. What I didn’t anticipate is that it left me scratching my head a little, as this year was supposed to be spent writing,” he says in a press release. “What this year’s open schedule did afford us was time to think through the way the fans experience our music live, and it was important to us that we find a way to stick to these same principles when it came to approaching our shows, down to the way they go on sale.”

As with past tours, Church will combat scalpers throughout the ticket buying system. He and his team spent some additional time trying to make sure his most loyal fans would get the best seats, including limiting pre-sales to fan club members only. Fans must be registered in the Church Choir to receive the pre-sale link, and scalpers who are found to be attempting to game the system won't receive that link at all. Church has also set aside additional tickets for the pre-sale and put in place a system to flag and cancel scalpers' orders. Pre-sale tickets will also be delivered just days before each show takes place, making it harder for scalpers to re-sell their seats even if they do get them.

“In this era where growing inequality seems to be the norm, we wanted to do everything within our power to put the advantage back in the hands of true fans rather than those that take advantage of the system, and by extension our people,” John Peets, Church’s manager, says. “It was important to us to invest time into evaluating and redesigning the ticket buying process and build the technology to level the playing field.”

Fans can register for the Church Choir and gain access to the pre-sale from now until Aug. 23 at 11:59PM CT. The Holdin' My Own Tour pre-sale begins at 11AM CT on Sept. 9 and runs through through 11:59PM CT on Sept. 11. Church Choir members will receive pre-sale details via a text message. Tickets information for the general public is to be announced
