
Over 30 Areas Are Prone To Flooding In Lawton, Oklahoma
If you have lived in Lawton, Oklahoma, long enough, you know that every few years intense rainfall can flood several areas across town! On Saturday, April 26, Lawton saw nearly seven inches of rain in a quick amount of time that caused dangerous flooding throughout town. More rain is expected Tuesday into Wednesday, and more flooding is expected. To help residents prepare for the next round, the City of Lawton put together a comprehensive list of flood prone areas in Lawton.
On Saturday, a massive severe thunderstorm struck Lawton early in the morning dropping several inches of rain, gusty winds and various sizes of damaging hail. It rained on and off throughout the day Saturday as emergency personnel responded to multiple stranded vehicles and rescued people who were trapped in their home by flooding waters. One fatality was reported Saturday from someone trying to drive through a flooded road way.

Last Saturday, evacuation orders were issued for several areas of Lawton. With more substantial rainfall on the way and another round of significant flooding, residents in Lawton, especially in flooded areas, are encouraged to remain weather aware! Residents of Lawton will also want to make sure they're able to get information from the Comanche County/Lawton Emergency Management and the City of Lawton if any evacuation orders are issued.
