Seafood lovers in Oklahoma will want to mark their calendars for Saturday, March 7, 2026, as that's when Frederick will host its annual oyster fry. The Frederick Fantastic Oyster Fry has taken place in southwest Oklahoma for over 50 years and is one of the only times Oklahomans can have fresh oysters right from the Gulf.

The annual Frederick Fantastic Oyster Fry is a fundraiser for the Frederick Chamber of Commerce and also offers the best opportunity to explore Frederick. The annual oyster fry will hosts a craft show plus local businesses and museums will provide shopping and entertainment for visiting seafood lovers.

Visitors can walk through Frederick's Pioneer Townsite and learn about Oklahoma's agricultural past by visiting exhibits in historical buildings. The townsite also has an exhibit dedicated to the Abernathy Boys. Other sites to visit include the historic Ramona Theatre, Hackberry Flat, WWII ADT Hanger, the Crawford Collection and more.

Oysters for the Frederick Fantastic Oyster Fry are delivered overnight from the Gulf.

It's not easy to get fresh seafood in a landlocked state like Oklahoma. But Frederick is dedicated to serving fresh oysters from the Gulf of Mexico at its annual oyster fry. Volunteers journey down to Port Lavaca, Texas, the Friday before the oyster fry and load gallons of oysters into a truck filled with refrigerators to keep the oysters nice and chill as they make their way to Oklahoma overnight.

Once the oysters arrive, more volunteers get to work on prepping the oysters and setting up assembly lines for breading to prepare them for frying. Several of the volunteers have been helping out with the oyster fry since it first began over 50 years ago. Other volunteers include local business owners, civic groups, student organizations and townsfolks who love Frederick and the town's traditions.
