Holiday In the Park Opens This Weekend in Lawton, Oklahoma
The holiday season is getting ready to begin in Oklahoma! Holiday In the Park will open Saturday, Nov. 16 with a 5K and parade in downtown Lawton. Residents will also be able to enjoy thousands of twinkling lights, ice skating rink, Christmas Market and more in Lawton's Elmer Thomas Park.
Holiday In the Park is a longstanding tradition in southwest Oklahoma. The nonprofit group started by decorating Elmer Thomas Park with thousands of twinkling lights. Over the years, Holiday In the Park has evolved and added several other activities to the park, like an ice skating rink, live music, holiday movies, a Ferris wheel, pictures with Santa, live nativity and more.
One of the newest additions to Holiday In the Park this year will be the Christmas Market, which will house local vendors for park visitors to shop at during Holiday In the Park.
Holiday In the Park will kickoff with a 5K and holiday parade.
To kickoff the holiday season, Holiday In the Park will host a Frost Your Fanny 5K before the parade on Saturday, Nov. 16. Those interested in participating in the 5K can register in person at 3:30 p.m. Saturday. The run is set to begin at 5 p.m.
After the 5K, the Holiday In the Park parade will take over downtown Lawton at 6 p.m. Saturday. This year's theme is "Candyland." The parade will lead residents into Elmer Thomas Park for people to enjoy the first night of Holiday In the Park.
Holiday In the Park had multiple events planned this season.
After the 5K and the parade, Holiday In the Park will have more free events for residents! There will be a free event almost every week leading up to Christmas Eve. Residents can enjoy live music, dancing, holiday crafts and more.
