Get Your Feeders Ready For Hummingbirds In Oklahoma
One of my favorite parts about spring in Oklahoma is front porch visits from hummingbirds! Local stores are already blooming with flowers and other lawn items, including hummingbird feeders. And if you're wanting front porch visits from the colorful birds, you'll want to get your feeders before the middle of March.
AccuWeather has released a graph of the migration of the ruby-throated hummingbirds from Central and South America into North America. Ruby-throated hummingbirds are expected to arrive in Oklahoma from mid March and into mid April.
Southeast Oklahoma may see hummingbirds first.
Residents in southeast Oklahoma may see ruby-throated hummingbirds before most of the state. This area could see hummingbirds as early as March 15, with anticipated arrival through March 31.
As for the rest of the state, hummingbirds could be spotted anywhere from April 1 through April 15.

How to attract hummingbirds.
If you want to see these fast, colorful birds buzzing around your yard this spring, you'll want to make preparations to attract them! According to the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation, hummingbirds are an essential pollinator in Oklahoma and residents can help refuel hummingbirds by either planting a hummingbird garden or setting out a sugar-water feeder.
Hummingbirds have been found to feed from flowerbeds and even hanging potted plants. They also enjoy sugar-water feeders placed on patios and decks. Hummingbirds feed comfortably when the feeders are at least two feet above ground.
Whether you're planning on providing flowers or sugar-water feeds for hummingbirds, the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation has important guidelines that should be followed.
