Most people don't believe it when they first hear it, but Chuck Norris was born in Ryan, Oklahoma.

That tiny little town way down in Southwest Oklahoma created a legend. And to read through his personal life over on Wikipedia, he beat the odds of having a really rough upbringing.

In 1940, his hometown was still feeling the effects of the Great Depression and Dust Bowl years. His dad had issues with alcohol, his parents split, and under the social stigma of what made his family hometown-famous, they eventually packed up and moved west when he was a teenager.

Like a lot of young men looking for a way up in life, he found stability in the military. That’s where he began to evolve into Chuck Norris. He learned martial arts while stationed in Korea, won a slew of tournaments, opened a few schools, and answered the phone when Hollywood called.

After early TV appearances and a couple of hit action movies, Walker, Texas Ranger cemented his legend, and he became the internet’s favorite unstoppable human.

Not bad for a kid from Southwest Oklahoma.
