Earlier this week, Oklahoma was looking at a multi-day rain event with the possibility of severe weather. Heavy downpours, light flooding, and a little bit of hail. Today, things look a little different, and most of the Sooner State has been upgraded to enhanced risks of stronger storms and tornadoes.

We all knew it wasn't going to be that easy...

The weather in Oklahoma never is, and when meteorologists start talking about risks five days out from the storms, you know it's almost always going to get worse.

I think most people waited around yesterday for the hail to hit, but the overcast skies kept it cool and drizzly all day. A fantastic turn of events, but Thursday is looking a bit on the twister side.

The National Weather Service has put out a somewhat confusing forecast. We have a slight chance of severe weather everywhere west of I-35 today, and while the tornado threat is low, conditions are going to be prime for twisters to be sudden and very large.

KOCO Meteorologist Michael Armstrong details it pretty well here.

On Friday, the risks grow even higher.

Friday is looking like the biggest threat to Oklahoma, especially this early in the storm season.

Almost the entire state is encased in at least a marginal threat of severe weather, and the areas categorized above that are looking at the typically spring threats.

Large hail. High winds. Tornadoes.

Still, there's no reason to really worry all that much. If it does happen, there's nothing we can do about it besides being prepared.

If you haven't put together your family tornado plan, do that as soon as you can, but be chill about it. Kids don't need to share in your worry, make it fun.

Also, put together your tornado emergency kit for the home. When the sirens start blaring, you don't want to be running around the house looking for supplies. You'd much rather grab a bag and go, or have it already placed in your safe spot.

Odd and Unbelievable Tornado Facts

As far as we've come in the technology surrounding severe weather and tornadoes, there's still a massive amount science still doesn't understand. Yes, there is a generally agreed idea of how they begin, the conditions needed, and the usual atmospheric conditions, but twisters are still wildly unpredictable. Even more fascinating are the strange and almost terrifying facts about these powerful displays of nature.

With tornadoes on our minds the last few days, I started to wonder about many of the tornado records. How many in one day, biggest outbreak, strongest tornado in history, etc... While we all feel Oklahoma is the home of terrible tornadoes, the stats are somewhat surprising.
