While most of America is focused on lake days and the coming Labor Day celebrations only moments after the last firecracker bursts in the sky, a small portion of us instantly hooks into fall and the year's best holiday. Halloween.

While that seems like a pretty big jump, keep in mind that Hobby Lobby hops straight into Christmas mode. Spirit Halloween wastes no time either.

Lawton's newest temporary Spirit Halloween location is going up on Gore Boulevard, in the old Country Mart/Cash Saver grocery store location.

I keep thinking back to the previous locations around town in the past years, but can't remember a location this big. I mean, they were in that big furniture store a few years ago, but I don't remember them utilizing the whole thing, right?

It's a little over 22,000 square feet, and while Spirit won't likely fill the whole thing to the brim, it's going to be a massive store.

We're used to seeing America's Halloween superstore in strip malls and smaller locations, what gives?

How Spirit Halloween Picks Locations

One business's struggle is Spirit's bangzone.

Among Spirit's 1500 locations each year, they thrive in areas where bigger businesses have collapsed.

Closed and folded Rite-Aid and CVS Pharmacy locations. Haunting what used to be Bed, Bath, & Beyond. Even random strip mall locations, if that's what is available by June, when the company is planning locations.

They just stick to a few key metrics.

Metro population of at least 35,000 people. They say locations require a certain radius for larger keystone-type businesses. And at least 25,000 cars drive by each day.

Who knew Gore Boulevard was that busy?

I'm sure there is at least one other Lawton location already being put together. Maybe even two, they're just not on my daily normal route. Most likely out on the West Side, maybe even a location up on Cache Road.

If you're already hopping into your spooky mood for the next few months, the stores will open soon. Not yet, but in August for sure.
