December 1 may as well have marked the first day of winter weather here in Oklahoma. Things started off chaotic and many Oklahomans found themselves in wrecks, ditches, or caught in major traffic delays because of winter driving conditions.
Driving in Oklahoma comes with its own risks, including driving on the roads with certain weather conditions. In some cases, it's just better to stay home or leave much earlier than you originally intended to avoid running late.

First winter weather event of December 2025 kicks off the month with chaos.
Although many parts of Oklahoma didn't see but a small bit of moisture, several of the state's major highways were shut down early this morning because of traffic accidents and road conditions.
After rain and sleet overnight coated the streets, black ice proved to be a major issue for drivers on I-44, I-35, and I-40. According to reports, officials responded to more than 80 accidents in the Oklahoma City metro.
Around 7 a.m., the icy road conditions caused a major accident, resulting in all lanes northbound on I-35 at I-40 to be shut down with major delays. Other drivers reported seeing accidents and delays on I-44, heading towards Oklahoma City, early this morning, as well.
Oklahoma drivers should check road conditions and prevent delays ahead of time.
