Well, it happened. Yet again, I ended up with another speeding ticket last week.

Having the world's worst lead foot is a bit of a double edged sword. In one hand, I have a very, very slim wallet. On the other, I have more experience with Oklahoma's driving infraction system than most people.

Since I'm so wonderfully familiar with speeding fines, I figured I'd share my experience and list the towns even I wouldn't get caught speeding in now in southwest Oklahoma.

Take The Speed Limit Signs Seriously in Fletcher, Oklahoma

The "scene of the crime" happened on North Drive, heading from 75th street back towards Fletcher, Oklahoma.

Despite the fact that this portion of the road feels like it should definitely have a higher speed limit, I was informed that the entire thing is only 45 miles an hour. The hills might make it fun to let the car coast down, but you can easily hit at least ten miles over the speed limit without realizing it.

And let's just say that could earn you a prize you don't want to have to take home. So learn from my mistakes, and avoid speeding in or around this town.

Use Your Cruise Control When You Pass Cache, Oklahoma

Highway 62 runs right by Cache, Oklahoma. And one very early morning, I found out that 75 means 75 and not a bit faster.

It's best just to set the cruise on this highway, and if you drive through town, take extra care to stay a safe speed.

Wildlife Isn't The Only Thing To Look Out For Near Medicine Park, Oklahoma

When I first starting learning to drive, my parents would emphasize to me every time how bad it really would be if you were caught speeding in or around Medicine Park. Not only are the town cops looking for speeders, but so are the Comanche Nation policemen and women.

Luckily, I've never received a ticket in this town, but I've seen plenty of people pulled over. I know better than to let my lead foot run wild here, and so should you.

Not only are wildlife running around everywhere, even beside Highway 49, but motorcyclists, mountain bikers, runners, and pedestrians are almost always sharing the roads, too.

Elgin, Oklahoma - Busier, But Not Faster

Elgin has grown into its own tiny metro over the years. Now, the highway is wider, with more businesses and heavier traffic. And heavier traffic means longer wait times.

Some drivers try to speed to beat traffic so they aren't caught waiting for a long while. But speeding in a small town quickly catches an officer's eye, and you really never know where they're waiting in Elgin.

Unlit Roads Lesson I Learned Near Carnegie, Oklahoma

They may be farther west than the other towns, but I still take this drive very seriously, thanks to a state trooper from years ago.

He brought up a very fair point when he pulled me over: it's difficult to see on unlit, winding roads. Anything could pop out in front of you, including other cars, and in some areas, you wouldn't see them coming until the very last minute.

Plus, speeding tickets here are incredibly expensive.

Take it from me - the very few seconds you could have saved aren't worth the hundreds of dollars or possible damage you could have to pay for in an incident.
