Before It Was Side Bar, What Do You Remember It As?
While driving down 2nd Street yesterday, I noticed that the doors to the old Side Bar were open with cars parked beside the building. When you look inside, you can see a table saw ready to be used. By the looks of it, renovations may finally be happening for one of Lawton's classic bars.
Over the years, this uniquely shaped building has changed names and owners many times. Before it was known as the Side Bar, many, many people remembered it as something else.
When you drive by the green lounge with the curtain walls and rounded ceiling, what do you think of it as?
The bar on 201 NW Arlington Ave. is bringing back memories for long-time Lawtonians.
Before it was known as the Side Bar, most people remember this building as "The Hoffmans." From the majority of the comments, it seemed like a nice place that couples and good-time lovers visited often back in the mid 90s.
There were another few names people said the building used to be, such as:
- Studio 25
- Downtowner
- Daddy's Corner
It's hard to find out exactly the timeline on when this building could have had these names. If you know, share with us through our app!

What Is Happening At The Old Hoffmans/Side Bar?
Last year, the city gave the owner, Jason Wells, the permit to continue renovations on the building. Initially, he wanted to reopen the building back up as a bar, as it was originally built in the 1950s, he told the Lawton Constitution.
Some speculate that it could be reopened as a restaurant and bar, but that has not been confirmed. We're actively keeping up with updates on the restaurant and will update this post once we've received confirmation.
