Jason Aldean returned to headline Las Vegas Friday (Dec. 6) for the first time since the tragic mass shooting at the Route 91 Festival there in 2017. Aldean was on stage for the event when the shots began, and, although he's visited to talk to survivors and play various events, hasn't played a full concert date in Vegas since.

On the opening eve of his three-night Ride All Night Vegas residency at the Park MGM, Aldean memorably addressed the tragedy by welcoming first responders and survivors of the shooting. He then got things going with the rousing statement, "Let's finish what we started, what y’all think?"

While that was certainly a moment to remember, Aldean's comment was perhaps usurped by something going on in the audience. An unnamed fan in a wheelchair, dressed in a Route 91 t-shirt and holding an American flag, was hoisted above the crowd to cheer out triumphantly as Aldean played "Any Ol' Barstool." Aldean's wife Brittany posted the moment on Instagram, marveling "We’re with you, we cry with you and celebrate life with you," while fan-shot video captured the touching scenario live (see below).

Aldean wound down the night with his “Before She Says Baby,” the very song he was performing at Route 91 when the shooting began. “Last time we were starting this song here, we got a little interrupted, so let’s finish it,” he said. And, to put the finishing touch on a dramatic night, he ended with Tom Petty's "I Won't Back Down," which he had performed on Saturday Night Live shortly after the shooting to both make a statement about the tragedy as well as commemorate Petty, who died the day after Route 91.

"Proud of you, love" Brittany Aldean posted after the show of her husband's triumphant return.

Jason Aldean will be embarking on his We Back Tour to support his latest project. The tour will begin in Columbia, S.C. on Jan. 30 and will conclude on Mar. 14 in Saint Paul, Minn. Dates and tickets can be found on Aldean's official website.
