For those who made a stop at the Walmart on Sheridan Road in Lawton on their lunch break Wednesday, they were in for a scary situation. The Lawton Police Department responded to an active shooter situation at the Walmart on Sheridan shortly after noon on Wednesday.

Around lunchtime Wednesday, Lawton residents enjoying their lunch break near the Walmart on Sheridan or those who stopped at Sam's for a quick errand noticed several police cars and first responders at the Walmart. Cars could be seen exiting the parking lot in droves as more and more first responders sped towards the emergency.

The suspect was apprehended and taken to the hospital with injuries from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

We quickly learned that there was an active shooter situation taking place at the Walmart. Before 1 p.m. Wednesday, the Lawton Police Department had posted an update to the department's official Facebook page stating that the suspect had been apprehended and was being taken to the hospital for a self-inflicted gunshot wound. No other injuries were reported.

According to the update, the Walmart on Sheridan Road will be closed until further notice. The Lawton Police Department is still investigating the incident.
