Lawton Public Schools Reschedules Football Games Due to Severe Weather Threat
It looks like severe weather will be returning to Oklahoma this week! And instead of Friday Night Lights, Lawton Public Schools has made the decision to reschedule this Friday's football games for Thursday night.
On Wednesday, Lawton Public Schools announced that the Lawton High School and MacArthur High School football games would be rescheduled from Friday to Thursday. Lawton High School will host Carl Albert High School at 7 p.m. Thursday at Cameron Stadium in Lawton.
MacArthur High School will be on the road this week to Newcastle, Oklahoma. The game will take place at 7:15 p.m. Thursday in Newcastle. As of Wednesday, the game between Eisenhower High School and Northwest Classen is still scheduled for Friday in Oklahoma City.
Oklahoma could see flash flooding this weekend.
Severe weather is expected to ramp up, particularly in southwest Oklahoma, starting Thursday evening. Whether or not the Thursday night football games will be canceled is to be determined!
But into Friday and Saturday, Oklahoma is expected to see an increase in severe storms, plus heavy rain, which is expected to lead to localized and flash flooding across the state.
What to take to a rainy football game.
As a Nana, I've been to many sporting events for my kids and grandkids that have involved sitting in the rain! If you have to be out in this weekend's weather to watch a loved one, then you'll want to make sure you pack the essentials.
I definitely recommend taking a rain jacket, plus a poncho and umbrella. And don't forget to keep your feet dry! Rain boots are definitely a must. If it's chilly, you'll want some of those hand warmers, plus cash for hot chocolate at concession stand or, if allowed, bring a thermos of your own!
