Winter Storm Fern is getting ready to impact Oklahoma, and Lawton is expected to see ice, several inches of snow and multiple days below freezing. To get ahead of the winter storm, multiple agencies in Lawton have announced closures or delays.

The National Weather Service in Norman has placed Lawton in a Winter Storm Warning, which will be in effect from 6 a.m. Friday, January 23 through noon Sunday, January 25. Within the warning, Lawton could experience mixed wintry precipitation, including a glaze of ice up to two tenths of an inch, six inches or more of snow, winds up to 35 miles per hour and dangerously cold wind chills.

Oklahoma residents, including Lawton, are being urged to prep for the upcoming winter storm by stocking up on necessities, making sure their homes, especially pipes, are ready for multiple days of below freezing, and animals are brought inside or in a warm, safe space.

Also, Oklahoma residents are encouraged to not travel for any reason during the Winter Storm Warning, which is why several agencies are announcing closures.
