All of the April showers we've been getting in Lawton are making everyone's flowers pop! It's the perfect time to get submissions in for the Lawton Enhancement Trust Authority's annual Yard of the Month contest.

LETA opened its spring Yard of the Month nominations on April 9, and Lawton residents have till April 30 to get nominations in for the April Yard of the Month. This yard of the month contest will last through September.

LETA will have Yard of the Month winners through September.

Each month Lawton residents can submit nominations for Yard of the Month through Google Form. Monthly submissions must be submitted before the end of each month to be nominated for that month. Nominated Yards will then be voted on via Facebook.

Winners will receive a LETA Yard of the Month yard sign and a $100 gift card to Bedrock Nursery.

Oklahoma's Beneficial Insects

Not all insects are pests! There are some insects that are beneficial to you and your garden. In a study by the Oklahoma Cooperative Extension Service on beneficial insects, "most insects found in yards, gardens or crops do not feed on or harm plants. Many are just 'passing through' or have very innocuous habits. Others feed on and destroy pest species. In many cases, the activities of these beneficial species can prevent or greatly limit pest problems."
