question:

What date will the election for City Council and the Capital Improvements Program (CIP) 2012 be held this year?  Why is the election date earlier than previous years?

answer:

The election date for City Council, Wards 6-8, and the ballot measures for CIP 2012 will be held on October 11th, 2011.  If you are not yet registered to vote, you can do so by acting on one of the two available options: 1.) Download the official electronic form and send it to the address within at: http://www.ok.gov/elections/Voter_Registration/Voter_Registration_Application_Form.  2.) Visit one of the following locations to pick up a form at: County election board offices, Tag agencies, Public libraries, Post offices, State Election Board.  For more information you can also visit the following web address: http://www.comanchecounty.us/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=89&Itemid=135.

This year’s election dates have been changed because the County has been selected to participate in a State sponsored program that will allow citizens to vote electronically using modern technology.  Because this is a new program, it must be monitored closely by State and County officials to insure a seamless transition to the newest technology.  The City of Lawton has agreed to participate with the County in order to allow them the opportunity to take advantage of this new program and has adjusted its election cycle accordingly.
