One drink. That's all it takes. One drink after work. One drink at the office Holiday party. One drink with friends. One drink before hitting the road.

One drink too many.

All to often, the holiday spirit is vanquished by the recklessness of one driver. One selfish driver who knew that he or she was "OK to drive". During the holiday season, more than any other time of the year, festive parties and celebrations contribute to the over abundance of drivers on the road way that have over indulged.

Wichita Mountains Prevention Network and the Lawton FortSill Community Coalition are joining with highway safety partners and law enforcement organizations throughout December to remind everyone that "Buzzed Driving is Drunk Driving," and drinking and driving don't mix.

Alcohol is a sedative which slows drivers response time and their ability to gauge distances and speed, also affecting the drivers ability to focus on the road. Any consumption of alcohol decreases a drivers ability to control their vehicle, making it unsafe to drive.

And while statewide deaths attributed to incidents involving drunk drivers has decreased in Oklahoma over the past three years, the 172 statewide deaths last year is approximately 172 too many."Buzzed Driving Is Drunk Driving" is a nationwide impaired-driving campaign, developed to inform American drivers about the danger of drinking and driving, and was created by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
