Loretta Lynn hadn't left the house since beginning recovery from a stroke, which she suffered in May, but she wasn't going to miss inducting Alan Jackson in the Country Music Hall of Fame.

The country music legend did the honors during Sunday night's (Oct. 22) medallion ceremony in Nashville. Lynn was escorted to the podium, where she talked about the first time she ever met Jackson. "He looked like a scared little boy," she said. "He was practicing backstage, going through his songs, and I remember I looked at him and I said 'You're going to be one of the greatest singers in country music."

"He hasn't let me down."

The crowd let Lynn know they appreciated her making the trip to Music City, several times giving her a loud ovation, none bigger than when she posed with Jackson and George Strait as Jackson's Hall of Fame bust was revealed.

"I love you and I am so proud of you," she added. "You deserve to be here."

"Loretta Lynn said I should be here," Jackson said upon beginning his speech. "That's all I needed to hear."

Songwriter Don Schlitz and the late Jerry Reed were also inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame during a ceremony that included performances from Strait, Jamey Johnson, Alison Krauss and Vince Gill. A highlight came when Strait, Connie Smith, Jackson and Lynn sang "Will the Circle Be Unbroken."
