“Lawton was selected as the 2014 Playday Finals for the fifth year in a row,” stated Tanna Vu, Lawton Fort Sill Chamber of Commerce Tourism Director. “We are delighted they enjoy their experience and want to keep returning to our city.”

The Grand National Horseman’s Association (GNHA), established in 1974, has over 150 member families whose ages range from three to over 70 years old. The GNHA focuses on teaching proper equine care, how to ride and compete, sportsmanship, plus brings people together who enjoys horses.

“Our association is divided into different districts and each district has year-long competitions which culminate in July as the top district winners compete at the Playday Finals,” cited Trudy Kastner, District Treasurer. “We run eight different timed events with the winner in each age class being awarded a saddle. Additional awards are given to 2nd, 3rd, and 4th overall winners and individuals in each event and age group.”

This family-friendly event brings in over 300 individuals and 200 horses to our city and with the schedule of events including barrels, poles, flags, flagpole, pylon, spur, potato and bowtie, there is very little downtime. Many local businesses are contributing discounts and door prizes for the GNHA participants to make them feel welcome and ensure the event’s success.
