The above photo may be the last time you see Ray Rice in an NFL jersey. If not forever, for at least a while. In the wake of footage leaked this morning by TMZ, the NFL has indefinitely suspended the running back in response to a February incident in which Rice was first seen dragging his unconscious fiance (now wife) Janay Palmer from an elevator after a supposed mutual assault in an Atlantic City casino. At the time the video available only showed the aftermath of Rice dragging Palmer from the elevator.

Video released by TMZ this morning was taken within the elevator and clearly shows Rice one timing Palmer with a left and her crumbling immediately to the ground. When Rice received a two-game suspension for the incident during the preseason, Palmer spoke out in defense of the Baltimore Raven running back, stating she didn't want to damage his career.

Current and former NFL players, including Terrance Knighton, LeCharles Bentley, Anthony Becht, London Fletcher and Phillip Tanner spoke out immediately upon this mornings release of the video stating the NFL needed to act swiftly and immediately in its dealing with Rice and that his 2 game suspension for the incident was woefully insufficient. The league acted immediately, though NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell claims to have never seen the video prior to this morning. The league recently instituted a tougher policy against domestic violence (after the backlash of Rice's original 2-game suspension) which now calls for a 1-year suspension for first offenders, unless the are "extraordinary circumstances."

Rice's team, the Baltimore Ravens immediately terminated his contract with the club, citing a morals clause within the contract. In my opinion: too little, too late. He should have been banished immediately after the original video was leaked.
