While the first round of arctic weather didn't upset the Oklahoma winter too much over the last few days, another round is coming on strong this weekend. (January 19-21)

Some portions of the state will get nothing but the cold, and others see the weather swing wildly between rain, ice, and snow...

The Storm

Winter Storm Indigo is currently tracking in the country, but it will mostly affect the Northern Plains and Midwest. There's a big push of very cold air ahead of it that will sweep across Oklahoma.

@news9kwtv Oklahoma will be warmer the next couple of days, wooooo hoo!! Above freezing! #oklahoma #weather #news9 ♬ original sound - news9kwtv

The forecast still isn't clear who is getting what, but most of the state has a chance at light flurries--no big deal.

The rain is the real kicker.

While every corner of the state could really use the moisture, the temperature is going to plummet once again meaning ice that could impact us for a few days until we warm back up to normal Sooner State winter conditions early next week.

Like every forecast, it's a roll of the dice. Honestly, it's like meteorologists toss chicken bones into a bowl to predict the weather. Worst-case scenarios are likely given to drive ratings, best-case scenarios are probably on the lighter side, and the truth is almost always somewhere in between.

This wildly varying forecast seems to line up just right with the forecast provided by The Almanac late last year...

...but winter is far from over in the Sooner State.

February is generally, or at least has traditionally been the brutally cold month of our average year. Almanac is predicting another round of Arctic cold next month and even more winter weather.

Whether that all will happen or not is still unknown. Predicting the future is a tough game to play.

The Frozen Wichita Mountains

When Southwest Oklahoma gets a rare blizzard with serious snowfall, the mountains take on a fresh and stunning look. It's something we all get to experience thanks to the video and camera work of a few awesome locals with a stellar YouTube channel, The Pemberton Boys. They flew their drones and explored the mountains across SWOK while the views were grand, putting it online for everyone to enjoy.
