Watch the Living Highwaymen Reunite at Kris Kristofferson Tribute Show
In the late 1980s and early '90s, Kris Kristofferson, Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson recorded and performed together as the country music supergroup the Highwaymen, and on Wednesday (March 16), the quartet's two living members, plus two special guests, joined together for a memorable performance of "Highwayman" at The Life & Songs of Kris Kristofferson.
Along with Nelson and Kristofferson, Jamey Johnson and Jenning's son Shooter Jennings took the stage together at Nashville's Bridgestone Arena, paying tribute to both Kristofferson and the Highwaymen's two deceased members. Though Cash and Waylon Jennings have passed on, that brotherhood is still alive and well, and the re-imagined supergroup captivated the audience with an iconic sound. Press play on the video above to watch the performance.
"Highwayman" is the title track of the Highwaymen's first-ever album, released in 1985; it inspired both the album's name and the group's name. Written by Jimmy Webb, "Highwayman" was also recorded by Webb in 1977 and Glen Campbell.
The Life & Songs of Kris Kristofferson was full of special all-star performances. More than a dozen artists, including Reba McEntire, Lady Antebellum, Emmylou Harris and Eric Church, joined together for the unforgettable night. During the show, Kristofferson and Nelson also sang "Sunday Mornin' Comin' Down," which readers can watch below.
The Life & Songs of Kris Kristofferson was filmed for multi-platform distribution. More details will be announced at a later date.
