The 2022 baseball season is off to a late start.

The Texas Rangers have had to cancel the first seven games of the 2022 season due to Major League Baseball’s lockout.  On Tuesday afternoon, MLB commissioner Rob Manfred announced that he was delaying opening day, and canceling the first two series for each team.

The Rangers’ home opener against the New York Yankees and a three-game series on the road against the Miami Marlins have been canceled.   At the time of this writing, the Rangers will play their first game on the road against the Toronto Blue Jays, on April 8th.  After a three-game series in Toronto, the Rangers will head back home and host the Colorado Rockies for two games at Globe Life Field in Arlington.   However, this is subject to change.

Unfortunately, since spring training has been delayed, it is possible that even more regular-season games could be canceled.  MLB has been in a lockout since, last December when the league’s Collective Bargaining Agreement expired.  Both players and the league have been unsuccessful with their negotiations ever since.

The 2020s have not been very kind to MLB.  First, the 2020 season was significantly shortened due to the COVID-19 pandemic and started in July rather than April.  Now, not only is the 2022 season going to be shortened, but it could be in danger of being canceled altogether if the players and the league don’t come to an agreement soon.

Hopefully the season isn't delayed any further and the lockout ends soon.  I can't imagine spring in Texas without baseball.
