Thomas Rhett is nominated for three honors at Sunday's (April 2) 2017 ACM Awards ceremony: The tunesmith is in the running for Male Vocalist of the Year and for Song of the Year, as both the writer of and the artist on his hit single "Die a Happy Man," written for Rhett's wife Lauren.

"To be nominated for Song of the Year -- first of all, it’s just been nuts over the last year to be nominated for either Single [of the Year] or Song [of the Year] in pretty much every awards show for "Die a Happy Man,"" Rhett shared with The Boot and other reporters at a recent media event. "So to get nominated at the ACMs for that is a very, very incredible thing, because there’s so many songs that have been released this year that are so good. To be in that category is amazing."

The nomination that really threw Rhett for a loop, though, was his Male Vocalist of the Year nod.

"Everybody knows that [Chris] Stapleton is forever the Male Vocalist of the Year. To be in that category with a voice like that is mind blowing," Rhett says. "So that was huge, and took me by surprise, and I’m very, very honored to be in that category."

In addition to Stapleton, Rhett is up against Jason AldeanDierks Bentley and Keith Urban for Male Vocalist of the Year.

The 2017 ACM Awards are set to take place in Las Vegas, Nev., and air live on CBS beginning at 8PM ET. For the first time ever, the show will take place at T-Mobile Arena; Luke Bryan and Bentley will return as co-hosts.
