The first Country Music Association Awards were held. The show was hosted by Sonny James and Bobbie Gentry.
Eddy Arnold was named Entertainer of the Year, and Jack Greene won 3 awards, Male Vocalist of the Year as well as Album of the Year for There Goes My Everything and Single of the Year for the title track. "There Goes My Everything" also garnered Song of the Year honors for writer Dallas Fraizer. Loretta Lynn was named Female Vocalist of the Year, The Buckaroos Instrumental Group and Chet Atkins the Instrumentalist of the Year. The Stoneman Family was named Vocal Group and Don Bowman Comedian of the Year.
