All those rumors and speculation have turned out to be true: Transformers: The Last Knight will indeed feature the King Arthur legend in some capacity, and the movie’s found its Arthur. Liam Garrigan will play the Once and Future King, a role he’s quite comfortable with, seeing as he plays the same character on ABC’s Once Upon a Time. Hopefully this doesn't mean he’ll end up in some niche typecasting hell, unable to find work until someone decides to reboot Excalibur or Monty Python and the Holy Grail.

Garrigan will be joined by Santiago Cabrera as Merlin, with Mark Wahlberg, Josh Duhamel, and (non-candy-ass) Tyrese Gibson returning to the franchise. There’ll be some new blood as well: Isabela Moner, Laura Haddock, Jerrod Carmichael, Gil Birmingham, and Anthony Hopkins are joining the cast for the first time, as will new Autobots like Hot Rod and Squeeks.

All we know about the plot so far is that Optimus Prime has to journey back to Earth to retrieve an ancient artifact in order to save his home world from destruction. If The Last Knight is doubling down with this King Arthur business, this could mean Optimus’ special artifact is Excalibur. It could also be the legendary Holy Grail, the relic Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table perpetually search for, but let’s be real, Excalibur would be way cooler. And this is Transformers we’re talking about. Optimus is not about to fight Decepticons and save his planet with some dinky cup.

Transformers: The Last Knight rolls into theaters June 23, 2017.
