What are the professionals saying about 'Twisters?'

Several national media outlets have published their reviews about "Twisters," and most of them have said the same thing: the cast is great, but the script lacks the charm from predecessor. Other sites gave the movie a complete rave.

The review from Vulture said that although "Twisters" isn't a "throwback," it's lacks "an imaginative update on the original." And The Daily Beast referred to "Twisters" as a sequel to "Twister," even though the cast and director have described the film as not being a sequel, but a new story of its own. Either way, The Daily Beast still found that "Twisters" minimized "its predecessor’s goofiness in favor of vacuous character drama, winds up only sporadically kicking into gale-force gear."

But those who didn't compare "Twisters" and "Twister" side-by-side found the movie to be the blockbuster of the summer. IndieWire's review pointed out the differences of the films drama stating that "where 'Twister' spun a vintage screwball comedy into the shape of a cutting-edge disaster movie, 'Twisters' effectively flips that script by launching a (very) breezy modern rom-com..."

The Times of London's review said that "Twisters" would "blow you away" and gave the credit to the film's director Lee Isaac Chung, who is self-proclaimed tornado-obsessed. The review states that the film is "J=jam-packed with elegant directorial choices from the film-maker Lee Isaac Chung, who was Oscar-nominated for writing and directing the 2021 melodrama Minari." And that Chung "proves an inspired selection for a sequel to a one-note blockbuster ('Twister') that came out of the kitschy 1990s disaster movie cycle..."
