Mike Fisher is ready to retire his hockey jersey, for real this time. The Nashville Predators captain has announced he's re-entering retirement — he rejoined the team halfway through its 2017-2018 season.

Fisher had originally announced he was retiring from the sport at the end of the Predators run during the 2017 Stanley Cup Finals, but decided to return to the ice in January with encouragement from his wife, Carrie Underwood, and the team's manager and coach.

In a sentimental post on Instagram on Monday (May 21) (with a gallery of photos commemorating his time with the Nashville team, including one of the couple's son Isaiah proudly cheering him on) Fisher thanks those who have helped him in his journey.

"I’m so grateful for the last 18 years. It’s hard to believe how fast the time goes. I got the chance to play and work with so many incredible people along the way," he writes. "Thanks to the @predsnhl and @senators for all the amazing memories! Lastly thanks to my friends and family for supporting me over the years. It’s been a blast!!"

Fisher's superstar wife also expressed her gratitude via Twitter, sharing her pride for her husband and the team which has an entire city rallying behind them:

Fisher was benched due to a knee injury before Game 7 of the Predators series against the Winnipeg Jets in the 2018 Stanley Cup Playoffs, and the Preds ultimately lost to the Canadian team. While her husband takes time to rejuvenate from the hectic hockey season, Underwood is busy working on her new album, Cry Prettyset for release in September.
