Earlier this summer, Oklahomans were complaining about how much rain we were getting. Then summer did what it's notorious for and became extremely hot and dry. Thankfully, Oklahoma has multiple chances for rain this week, and cooler temperatures could be returning.

We're finally in the first full week of September. We've mentioned before that September is supposed to be super hot with cooler, fall-like temperatures not showing up until October. And that's definitely true for Tuesday, Sept. 5, as there's a heat advisory in affect for most of Oklahoma.

Severe thunderstorms are on tap for tonight.

After a day of extreme heat, we'll possibly see an evening of severe thunderstorms, especially in southwest and southeast Oklahoma. Storms could start moving in around 4 p.m. Tuesday.

For most of Oklahoma, the severe risk will be marginal with very low tornado potential, hail up to quarter size and wind speeds up to 60 to 80 miles per hour.

Good news though, there's a good rain potential for most of Oklahoma. Although there will possibly be isolated damaging wind gusts, heavy rain will be possible, which is what we need most. Areas of Oklahoma could see anywhere from 15 to 60 percent chances of precipitation.

More rain chances later in the week!

And Tuesday won't be our only potential for rain as Oklahoma does have lower chances of showers and storms towards the end of the week into the weekend and next week. (Also, peep the cooler temperatures on the horizon!)

Could Oklahoma soon see cooler temperatures?

The National Weather Service in Norman is predicting a possible pattern change, which is expected to bring cooler temperatures this weekend and early next week. But there is uncertainty around how much cooler, or less hot, it will be.
