Are Lawton Politicians Choosing Politics Over Public Health?

When your Lawton city council and Mayor Booker decided to make masks mandatory for all indoor places inside city limits, the covid rates in Oklahoma were half of what they are right now. On July 15th, 2020, Oklahoma was seeing 703 daily average new positive cases of coronavirus. Skip to today, that average number of new positive cases is sitting right at a little over 1200 per day. So why is it this mandate-happy group of elected leaders haven't hopped back on their mandatory mask and social distancing bandwagon?

Truth be told, only they could give you a direct answer. I, on the other hand, am free to use the process of independent thought to come to a personal and opinionated conclusion. It's the coming September 14th election that is probably holding off the sweeping covid mask and social distancing mandates for now. Since life is somewhat normal for most again, I don't think anybody in an elected position wants to remind the public just how far they're willing to push in the name of public health for fear of losing an office.

Is that a wild speculation? I don't think so. If you look at the covid restrictions now put back into place inside all city owned and managed properties... mandatory masks, social distancing, and the like. These rules just haven't been applied to the public and private businesses of Lawton.... yet.

That's sort of how I see things, granted, politics being what they are these days, it's easy to see how a person could come to this logical conclusion. But I'm curious how you see it. Do you think your elected leaders are waiting to see how the election goes before deciding to act in what they justified last year as "the public's best interest," or do you think they all learned a valuable lesson given the outcry from their unpopular actions of the past?
