There's so much to explore in Oklahoma, and one of the best ways is to spend at least a day in one of the state's historic small towns. Oklahoma residents have a unique opportunity in March to explore the town of Frederick and be a part of one of the community's oldest traditions.

On March 7, the Frederick Chamber of Commerce will host its annual fundraiser, the Frederick Fantastic Oyster Fry. Local volunteer will serve fresh oysters from the Gulf Coast, and ticketholders will have the choice of fried or raw oysters.

The oyster fry isn't until late afternoon, so it allows visitors of Frederick the perfect opportunity to explore the town before a unique dinner.

Visitors in Frederick can explore an exotic wetland, WWII hanger, local shops, historical sites and more.

The whole town of Frederick will be alive on March 7 for the oyster fry. The Frederick Chamber of Commerce has provided the perfect all-day itinerary for Frederick.

  • Before heading into town, visitors can explore the Hackberry Flat Wildlife Management Area, which is one of the state's wetland areas. Visitors can learn about the area at the Hackberry Flat Center and William H. "Bill" Crawford Building.
  • Visitors can then head into town for an early, light lunch and a shopping trip to Frederick's farm supply and gift shop, Box, Inc.
  • Starting at noon, visitors can stop by the historic WWII hanger for a tour. The hanger is home to the WWII Airborne Demonstration Team and houses real WWII airplanes.
  • Visitors can then spend the afternoon checking out other stops in Frederick, like a local artist studio at Jenny Perry's Mosaics, a collection of exotic taxidermy animals at the Crawford Collection, learn about the history of the area at the Pioneer Townsite, or stop by the classic car show downtown.
  • Before getting a plate of oysters, visitors can explore the Oyster Fry Spring Market across the street from the oyster fry.
  • Visitors can then wrap up the day with a plate of fresh oysters at the annual Frederick Fantastic Oyster Fry.
