This week, OK Teacher of the Year Nominations were announced and one of the nominees has ties to Lawton, Oklahoma! Sheila Treadwell, currently a Pre-K Teacher in Snyder, OK, grew up right here in Lawton!
Lawton Public Schools has announced that they will cancel classes on Friday, January 26, 2018 due to the number of students and staff that are sick with the flu. Elgin, and Cache schools, and the Great Plains Technology Center have announced via their websites that they will also close classes for the day. Elgin Schools will close Monday, January 29th as well.
The cost of lunch in Lawton Public Schools will be on the rise for the 2017-2018 school year, as the Board of Education approved a $0.10 increase for all elementary and secondary locations in the Lawton School System.
With the budget of the Lawton Public School system being slashed to the bone, student supplies are at a bare minimum and parents are left to shoulder the expense of basic school supplies for their students.
Monday night's Lawton Board of Education meeting saw the approval of several outstanding items, as well as receiving updates on its Pre-K program and the availability of digital textbook access for its mathematics curriculum.
Despite the recent bad news that Lawton Public Schools will soon be facing further cuts in local and state revenue, school officials say that they expect to be able to continue to provide quality services for the remainder of the 2016-2017 school year.
