With the e-reader devices gaining more and more popularity the war between e-books and print books rages on! Which one should you choose? Both have their pros and cons- find out which one we think is better!

With the convenience and glamor of e-readers, such as the Kindle, the Nook, and the iPad, electronic reading is becoming more and more popular. According to a recent Forbes article, books for Kindle outsell paper books on Amazon.com. In addition, many newer e-readers, perhaps more accurately called tablets, allow their users to download apps, giving them access to much more than just books.

As a lifelong avid reader, though, I get more pleasure from the simple joys of holding a hard copy of a book, but being able to highlight favorite quotes and share them directly with friends on Facebook- has been great!

Check out our Pros and Cons List!

E-book Pros:

  • Portable
  • Environmentally friendly
  • Easily readable, with their zoom and resizing functions

E-book Cons:

  • Difficult to share
  • Require battery
  • E-books are more expensive than books bought at secondhand stores or borrowed from friends or the library

Print Book Pros:

  • Cheap
  • Easily accessible
  • No substantial eye strain

Print Book Cons:

  • Oftentimes bulky
  • Notes are permanent

Also to keep in mind that a print book can’t access the Internet. For example, I can’t play Angry Birds on my worn copy of Pride and Prejudice. And the hard copy of The Hunger Games won’t play music…unless you count the dramatic, stereotypical music that plays in your head during tension-filled scenes.

But what print books can do is wait for you on your nightstand, proudly fill a bookshelf, and withstand being thrown across the room when something terrible happens to your favorite character.

Which do you prefer: e-books or print books?
