Can you believe Devin Dawson has never had a valentine? By his own admission, the 2018 holiday was pretty special.

The up-and-coming singer-songwriter opens up in an Instagram post about how grateful he feels to have his first official valentine, girlfriend Leah Sykes, in his life.

"Believe it or not, I don’t think I’ve ever actually had a valentine on Valentine’s Day," he writes in the caption alongside a black-and-white photo of the couple, Leah's arms lovingly draped around his neck. "But damn, am I a lucky man to have this one this year. Thanks for being mine, @leahgracesykes."

It appears the two met while attending Belmont University. Skyes, who's also an aspiring singer-songerwriter, shared her own Valentine's Day sentiment on her Instagram page with a photo of the two of them on her graduation day.

"Thankful for every heartbreak before you that showed me what love doesn’t look like so I could recognize it when I got it from you," she says next to a sweet shot of herself mid-laugh, holding her diploma while Dawson looks at her proudly. "Happy Valentine’s Day, Devin. Here’s to celebrating every big moment together."

Dawson will appreciate having someone by his side as he ascends in his career. He released his debut album, Dark Horse, in early 2017 and delivered a Top 10 hit single with "All on Me." Love is a prominent theme on the albumthough many of the songs were written at a time when Dawson wasn't in love.

"It's crazy how sometimes when you put something into the universe, it comes back," he says. "I've been lucky to find love, and it's cool to hear these songs in a different light having somebody else to share it with instead of putting myself in somebody else's shoes."

The rising star will join Brett Eldredge's the Long Way Tour as an opening act when it launches in April.
