Why Oklahomans Are Excited About Sherman’s New H-E-B Store

Oklahoma isn't known for any iconic grocery stores, but its neighbor Texas is. The Lone Star State is proud to be home to H-E-B, and many Oklahomans that travel to Texas always make time to stop and H-E-B and stock up on their favorite store-exclusive items. Now some Oklahomans won't have to travel too far to shop at H-E-B as a location is set to open in Sherman, Texas.

On Tuesday, July 29, Sherman Mayor Shawn Teamann confirmed with KXII that H-E-B will be opening in Sherman. This has been a project of Teamann's for some years as he admitted to courting H-E-B to come to Sherman by writing letters, sending emails and making calls. Finally, H-E-B accepted the offer and purchased a lot in Sherman to build a new store.

The mayor and locals are thrilled about H-E-B opening in Sherman, and so are Oklahomans as this location is the closest H-E-B to Oklahoma for those living along the Red River. For Oklahoma residents that live in Ardmore, H-E-B will now be just an hour and 15 minute drive. And it will be even closer for those in Durant at just 34 minutes.

As of Wednesday, July 30, a construction date has not been set for the H-E-B in Sherman, but the company has confirmed that a store will be opening in Sherman in the near future.

The H-E-B in Weatherford, Texas, is closer for other Oklahomans.

Now, for Oklahomans in southeast Oklahoma, the announcement of the H-E-B location coming to Sherman is a big deal. But for those in southwest Oklahoma, it's still a bit of a drive to get their H-E-B tortillas. For Oklahoma residents in Lawton, the closest H-E-B is in Weatherford, Texas, which is two and half hours away. Sherman would be nearly three hours.

Even for residents of Wichita Falls, Texas, who are close to the Oklahoma border, still have to drive over an hour and a half to get to the closest H-E-B in Fort Worth. The drive from Wichita Falls to Sherman would be an extra 30 minutes or so but it may be worth it to avoid traffic.

A resident of Wichita Falls has started a petition for H-E-B to come to Wichita Falls. We bet residents in southwest Oklahoma would also support this endeavor for H-E-B to be less than hour away.
