Sparklight Internet Awards $5,000 Grant Towards Oklahoma Summer Feeding Program

Although we're still miles away from summer, it's relieving to know that some of Oklahoma's local businesses are already thinking ahead. After all, 2025 was full of financial hardships and difficulties for families, and people in our community don't want to see anything like that happen again.

While some summer feeding programs have gone out of the window, a local internet provider, Sparklight, awarded a $5,000 grant to the One True Light Program, Inc. in Duncan. This program is used to "unite families by meeting physical and emotional needs."

One of the most significant ways they do so is by feeding children during the summer with funds like the money Sparklight was able to donate using a portion of their Charitable Giving Fund.

How will the grant be used to assist families in Oklahoma?

It's well known that summer time is one of the hardest times of year to feed children, especially in Oklahoma. Not because they're just unreasonably picky when the sun's beating down, but because of the financial difficulty that parents face during the summer.

The One True Light program does a variety of things for local communities, but the funds that Sparklight donated in the form of a grant will be used specifically towards their summer feeding program.

One True Light Executive Director Joan Brock explained:

"This grant allows us to keep our summer program thriving — serving thousands of breakfasts and lunches, hosting fun activities and creating joyful spaces where kids can eat, play and just be kids. With Sparklight’s support, we can continue to serve youth across Duncan, easing the strain on families and nurturing children with food, laughter and care.”

The importance of providing both a means of connection and a reliable program for families in Oklahoma is something both organizations share. Sparklight may have used $5,000 for this grant, but they collectively donated more than $125,000 in grants to 25 nonprofit organizations that assist Oklahoma families.
