"Now it's on to the Semi-finals. The final bracket spot has been filled as the Highlanders will be taking on McAlester this Friday night." These are the words used in the broadcast booth as the final seconds ticked away off the clock of last Saturday evenings game against the Pryor Tigers.

I don't know if what the Highlanders have accomplished this season can be truly appreciated since the Highlanders are so used to making this kind of appearance in the playoffs. In fact, now is the eighth time in the last eleven seasons. But before anybody takes this accomplishment for granted, I want to remind everyone that making the semi finals mean the Highlanders, who have never been ranked above 5th in the polls this year, are one of the final four teams of the 32 teams in Class 5-A.

So before we go any further, congratulations Big Mac!

I for one have loved the ride thus far! In the last three weeks, the Highlanders have frankly just found ways to win.

The Pryor Tigers came in with the same game plan that has gotten them this far and into the quarterfinals - run the ball and keep the ball away from your opponents. Especially the High powered Mac offense that can find away to score quickly.

The Tigers did their part by taking precious time off the clock which equaled half of a quarter twice in the ball game. But the one thing they did not anticipate or account for is the one weapon that no Highlander opponent has had an answer for - the wildcat. Running back Korrie Robbinson accounted for all three of the Highlander touchdowns. And once again the Highlanders, who trailed at the half in both of  their playoff games this year, found a way to come back and win.

The quest for the gold ball will continue for the boys up on the hill this week on a neutral site featuring the 11-1 McAlester Buffaloes against the 10-2 MacArthur Highlanders. The game will be played at Choctaw stadium Friday night at 7:00pm.

We will be bringing the game live to KLAW 101 for those who can't make the trip and streaming right here on the KLAW website.
