Miranda Lambert Dedicates Texas ‘Tin Man’ Performance to Women of Country Music [Watch]
Miranda Lambert knows as well as any female country artist that the radio playing field is not level when it comes to men vs. women. So when she took the stage to perform her song "Tin Man" at a home state show in New Braunfels, Texas, over the weekend, she used the opportunity to encourage those women who aren’t getting the radio play they deserve.
“I’m gonna do one by myself, because I can,” Lambert told the crowd according to a video posted on Twitter. “I want to do this on behalf of all the girls that are not being played on country radio right now. If you really love us, you will call and request any female that has a song out and something to say."
There has been a cloud of controversy surrounding females in the country industry over the last few years, and women with mics in front of them have been speaking out against injustice in the genre. Lambert has been luckier than most — despite issues at country radio, she has seen widespread success with her most recent (double) record, The Weight of These Wings, which earned platinum status as well as an ACM Award for Album of the Year. It was named one of the best albums of 2016 by several publications.
"Tin Man" is the most recent single from The Weight of These Wings. It reached No. 34 on Billboard’s Country Airplay chart.
