As if the renewal of FOX’s Wayward Pines weren’t enough of an anchor keeping M. Night Shyamalan on TV, The Sixth Sense director now has his own crypt. Tales From the Crypt, that is, a reboot of the classic anthology series landing on TNT.

TNT announced the project as part of a new two-hour horror block set to include both short and long-form programming, led by Tales and “curated” by Shyamalan. So says the prolific director of his latest return to the genre that started his career:

To be part of such a beloved brand like Tales From the Crypt, something I grew up watching, and to also have the chance to push the boundaries of genre television as a whole, is an inspiring opportunity that I can’t wait to dive into.

Added TNT:

This is a new genre for us in our series efforts and a great chance to partner with M. Night Shyamalan, whose blockbuster hit The Visit reminded movie audiences and critics this past summer that he truly is a master of horror. This two-hour horror block demonstrates not only TNT’s commitment to working with today’s top talents, but also our strategy to stand out in today’s marketplace by challenging the conventional rules of programming and scheduling.

Its new iteration set for fall 2016, Tales From the Crypt is best remembered by its seven-season run on HBO in the ‘90s, despite the show’s origins having roots in the 1950s EC comics outlined in our retrospective below. From 1989 to 1996, Tales From the Crypt also hosted countless celebrities as both actor and director, among them Michael J. Fox, Tom Hanks, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Back to the Future director Robert Zemeckis.

The new series will also include Ashwin Rajan, James D. Stern, John Santilli, and Dan McKinnon as executive producers. We’ll hear more as Tales From the Crypt emerges from the … uh, grave this year, but how might M. Night Shyamalan add to the mix?
