Record High Temperatures Possible for Oklahoma
It has been an unseasonably hot October for Oklahoma this year. And it looks like the state is in for some record-high temperatures before the next cool down. Some areas of Oklahoma could see temperatures above 90 degrees Wednesday, Oct 23 and Thursday, Oct. 24.
According to the National Weather Service in Norman, areas of Oklahoma will see summer-like temperatures for the rest of this week. These areas are expected to reach near-record temperatures on Wednesday and Thursday.
The forecasted temperatures for Wednesday and Thursday are expected to be right-at or just below record temperatures for those days. Some areas haven't been this hot in late October since 1927.
Low chance for storms south of I-40 on Wednesday.
A weak cold front has moved into Oklahoma early Wednesday, which is expected to keep those north of I-40 in the 70s. But those south of I-40 will still be hot in the 90s.
Later in the day, the cold front is expected to stale out just south of I-40, which could produce some isolated rain showers and storms, but, unfortunately, the chance for rain is very low.
High winds expected Thursday.
The winds will pick back up Thursday with gusts from 25 to 40 miles per hour. These will be strong, gusty south winds and people can expect strong crosswinds on east/west aligned roads.
High winds, lack of moisture and a low dew point will also cause elevated fire risk for northwest and western Oklahoma as well on Thursday.
Somewhat cooler temps and more rain chances expected next week.
Cooler temps are expected into the weekend, along with increased rain chances for next week.
One local meteorologist, KFOR Chief Meteorologist Mike Morgan, is predicting that Oklahoma will see a full weather pattern shift that includes more rain. He expects this shift to begin on Halloween. Let's hope it's a treat and not a trick!
