Is Oklahoma Ready For Another Round Of Record Rainfall?
Oklahoma has already broken several rain records this year, especially in April. Now Oklahoma is gearing up for another soaker at the end of August. Parts of Oklahoma could see anywhere from two to nearly six inches before the end of the month, and it's possible some rain records could be broken.
As with any kind of weather prediction, getting the amount of rain one area could receive is virtually impossible. On April 26, Lawton received more rain than anticipated in a matter of hours, which lead to flash flooding. Other counties received excess rainfall in the month of April that lead to a State of Emergency issued by Governor Kevin Stitt.
In April, the state surpassed the statewide rain levels with 8.74 inches. The last record was set in 1942 with 8.32 inches. Duncan saw the most rain of the month with 19.63 inches and Lawton was just behind it with 14.25 inches.
Large amounts of rain expected in Oklahoma before the end of August.
As a big weather pattern approaches Oklahoma, local meteorologists are claiming fall will come early to the state and will bring with it several days of rain. As of Thursday, August 21, early rainfall predictions expect widespread rain from two to four inches, but some areas in central and northern Oklahoma could see over six inches of rain.
