Oklahoma is getting cooked this week. A heat dome has settled over Oklahoma, and Wednesday, August 7 will bring dangerous heat to the state. Heat and humidity will bring the heat index between 105 and 110 degrees.

A heat advisory is in effect for most of Oklahoma. Various areas of the state will have temperatures in the high 100s and the heat index will make it feel much hotter. The heat advisory is in effect from noon to 9 p.m. Wednesday.

Light winds lead to an Air Quality Alert for Oklahoma.

An Air Quality Alert has been issued for the Oklahoma City metro on Wednesday due to the high temperatures and light winds. The Air Quality Alert is set for 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Wednesday.

According to the Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality stated that "light and variable winds, strong summer sunshine, and a polluted antecedent continental air mass will allow unhealthy ozone for sensitive groups to develop in and near urban areas."

Oklahoma also at an increase for fire danger.

Western Oklahoma will see elevated fire weather on Wednesday and Thursday due to high temperatures and dry vegetation. People in these areas are asked to practice wildfire safety on Wednesday and Thursday.

Good news: a cold front is on the way to Oklahoma.

Oklahoma can look forward to a cold front at the end of the week - a welcomed relief from the heat. The cold front will bring cooler weather Thursday and Friday and linger into the weekend. It will bring cooler temperatures and increased rain chances, especially for northern Oklahoma.
